Programme overview
The Diploma in Meat Technology is developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India. The Programme aims at imparting basic knowledge and skills for quality production of meat and meat products. Development of human resource for industry is also part of it. Stress is on training of personnel for self-employment and creating awareness and competency in the meat processing as well as poultry processing. The focus shall be to develop competencies in good slaughter practices, handling of meat on scientific lines, production of quality meat and meat products, testing and quality control of meat and meat products. The knowledge imparted shall facilitate good manufacturing practices in the processing sector and hygiene.
Objectives:
The objectives of the programme are to:
- provide knowledge and skills for quality production of meat and meat products
- develop human resource for meat industry and associated activities
- train personnel for self-employment
- impart knowledge and technical proficiency in:
(a) Good slaughter practices
(b) Handling of meat on scientific lines
(c) Production of quality meat and meat products
(d) Testing and quality control of meat and meat products
(e) Managing small and medium enterprises.

Fee Concession:
The fee concession is available to the following category of students:
- All the candidates from the rural areas shall be entitled for 50% fee concession subject to the production of domicile certificates.
- The urban students below poverty line may also be given 50% fee concession subject to production of income certificate.

Animal Procurement supervisor, meat processing technician, laboratory assistant, by-product plant technician, poultry processing technician, technician in egg industry, meat and egg grader, packaging supervisor, technician in leather industry, marketing assistant, distribution assistant, store assistant and entrepreneur.
Counselling sessions:
The programme has practical component and equal weightage has been given to theory and practical components. The participation in the practical session is an integral part of the programme. 75% attendance in the practical counselling session is compulsory to appear in the practical examinations. The counselling sessions are held at the study centres (usually during weekends) according to the schedule drawn by the programme-in-charge.
